‘Rat Park’ –Stuart McMillen

You’ll never think about drug addiction the same way again after reading this comic.

What I found absolutely impressive and stunning about this comic is the way the artist explained the identification and elimination of the confounding factors in the Rat Park study. This is one of the hardest parts of experiments to explain to the public, and I think it was just brilliantly done.

This is so great. I’ve read about the Rat Park experiments but I still learned new things from this. It’s long but extremely important.

Captain America knows what’s good.

STAY WOKE

This is the Captain America we need in 2017.

Let’s hear Cap’s entire speech:

“Listen to me– all of you out there! You were told by this man– your hero– that America is the greatest country in the world! He told you that Americans were the greatest people– that America could be refined like silver, could have the impurities hammered out of it, and shine more brightly! He went on about how precious America was – how you needed to make sure it remained great! And he told you anything was justified to preserve that great treasure, that pearl of great price that is America!

“Well, I say America is nothing! Without its ideals– its commitment to the freedom of all men, America is a piece of trash! A nation is nothing! A flag is a piece of cloth! I fought Adolf Hitler not because America was great, but because it was fragile! I knew that liberty could be snuffed out here as in Nazi Germany! As a people, we were no different than them! When I returned, I saw that you nearly did turn American into nothing! And the only reason you’re not less then nothing– is that it’s still possible for you to bring freedom back to America!”

Captain America, “What If (Captain America Were Not Revived Until Today)?” Volume 1 #44 (Peter Gillis, writer), April 1984

Wow. This was undoubtedly aimed at Ronald Reagan, but it’s like he was talking about Trump and Republicans. Note that he’s calling out the use of fear of “the other” and blind nationalism.

This is the Captain America the world actually needs right now

I wonder how it feels for Nick Spencer, who likes to think his writing is so very topical, that a comic from over twenty years ago has a more relevant and important take on Steve Rogers than anything he’s written about the character in his entire time working at Marvel

You enter a brightly light, nondescript room. In the center of the room is a cat. The cat is screaming about something.

>_

>PET

You cannot reach the cat.

The cat’s screaming continues.

>_

>SCREAM IN COMPLIANCE.

The cat may want to converse with you. You scream at the cat unintelligibly, as loudly as possible.

The cat seems unperturbed, and responds to your scream by screaming more loudly.

>_

>THROW MOUSE TOY AT CAT

You notice a cat toy on the floor nearby. Hastily, you pick the toy up and toss it to the cat. Unfortunately, you aim poorly in your haste and strike the cat in the face with the toy.

The cat stops screaming. She is not pleased.

>_

>SUMMON DOG

Though you have no magical powers that you are aware of, you approach the cat and attempt to cast a spell of Summon Dog. Surprisingly, a small dog appears near the cat.

The cat, perhaps surprised by the dog’s sudden appearance, begins screaming again.

>_

>OFFER FOOD

Nearby is a small container of cat food. You present it to the cat, who immediately consumes the entirety of the container and promptly falls asleep.

You have reached the end of the Cat Ownership Simulator. Thank you for playing. For a more realistic experience, we recommend playing the Cat Ownership Simulator every day for the next 15 to 20 years.

This is also a friendly reminder that roughly ¼ of all Black Swan pairings are gay males. And here are Dashik and Yehuda, two male griffon vultures who paired up and were given an artificial egg and then a chick to raise together at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo! (It’s not a creationist zoo, it’s just a zoo featuring animals that are mentioned in the Bible).
